Advancing Equity for Girls in Oakland Schools: At-Large Planning Meeting

In 2015, Alliance for Girls (AFG) was one of three in the nation to be awarded the inaugural National Girls Initiative Innovation Awards from the US Department of Justice. This award, accompanied by the funding and partnership of Oakland Unified School District, has enabled AFG and its members to launch an initiative to better meet the expressed needs of girls of color in Oakland schools.

Alliance for Girls commissioned Bright Research Group to gain a deeper understanding of the experiences of girls who are most vulnerable to being pushed out of Oakland schools. Bright Research Group conducted focus groups with African American, Latina, Pacific Islander and Native American girls across OUSD, culminating in the report, Valuing Girls Voices: The Lived Experiences of Girls of Color in Oakland Schools.

Please join Alliance for Girls for an at-large planning meeting to discuss next steps and key strategies. We will be working to strengthen our coordinated community response to girls' expressed needs.

All Alliance members and concerned community members are invited to attend.
